They come from hunting the beaches of different coast lines. Each find is a rare treasure, with no two teeth being alike. These relics, some as dark as midnight, can be over 10 million years old, revealing their ancient origins. The darker the tooth, the older it is, often signaling it has spent millennia buried in sediment.
They come from freediving to the ocean floor sometimes as deep as 60ft. When sea urchins die they naturally shed their spines and Dawn dives for them up. Each spine is unique in color shade, design and size. Dawn makes earrings and necklaces out of them and although they are sturdy enough to wear daily they are semi-fragile so try to pack them in the box provided while traveling.
Everything collected is long dead before it’s used in a piece. Like mentioned before the shark teeth used are fossilized meaning they are so old they turned to fossils. The shark teeth used are 7-10 MILLION years old. Sea urchins are exoskeleton animals so when they die the spines just disconnect from the circular part and lay in the sand. Every single shell used in any creation is a result of shelling, walking on the beach collecting shells.
The freediving journey started back in 2017 when Dawn took a job in Florida as a shark tour guide. She’s level one certified in freediving meaning she can hit depths past 50ft. but before 100ft. She currently Freedives whenever she gets the chance and travels often to new locations to swim with as many animals as possible.
